Final Video

The idea for this film is to show the different layers we have. On the outside were all happy and joyful (shown by dancing) the happy/good words that we say, write and read to each other. However, there is a darker side on the inside we are drowning in hate, confusion, and lost (shown by tub filling with water). The dark side appears sometimes which is why you hear some bad terms.

Music

Dubstep - Skrillex - He makes all of his music electronically. He's expressed a lack of talent in any instrument and noted that if not for his computer, he could not be a musician. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT40_00AGQU Electronic - Marshmello - He makes all his music also electronically, however, he's really pushing technology with his performances. He always wears his helmet which lights up during shows, but his latest performance he worked with fortnite an online multiplayer game and had a full virtual concert. https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/2/18208223/fortnite-epic-games-marshmello-concert-exciting-bizarre-future-music Virtual - Miku - She is a holographic performer all the music is created through programs as well as her concerts, where they project a 3D hologram on stage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbFxHdszYvA Girl Power - Ariana Granda - She writes songs that empower women and is breaking new records. Performance Art

For my performance art, I looked at the computer screen that had a photo of the view in front of me. With my performance, I wanted to show how people nowadays rather look at the view through a screen to either only see the good of the world or see some else view. I did have some issues because my performance is just me sitting most people just walked/drove past me with no second thought. Also having someone filmed me, I think they would also think its for a film and would avoid to be nice.

Performance artist

The three performance artists I picked are Marina Abramovic, Ian Hattwick, and Lisa Park. They are all using technology to enhance their artworks. Hattwick is creating devices where the audience feels vibrations as they move around a room. Park uses a device that takes her brain activity and vibrates bowls with water. Abramovic has a performance where she creates a digital projection of herself the audience will get to interact with. They all use technology to push the limits of performance art. All of them focus their art on the viewer's active observation- they are all in motion.  Nowadays most people are looking at their phones or other devices and don't really look around them, so just performing outside places isn't going to work as well as it used to. The best thing for performance art to grow is to have events like at museums, so people who will interact or watch will be there, or to go digital with there performances. Have people walk into buildings or spaces and th...

Copier Project

My inspiration for this project was a mix of The Elephants by Salvador Dolly and Andy Warhol. I created four versions of my face then use arm photos as the body which gave off the feeling like the elephants. The theme of hands is to show how we do so many tasks, constantly multitasking its like were made of hands. my printer broke when I was working on the project that's why some pieces are hard to see, however, I liked the look it shows you can't always trust technology.

Grid Art

Original My version This is my first grid, which as you can tell I screwed up with the measuring because the squares are way to small. I figured this problem out when I started to paint the squares and they weren't lining up with the original artwork.

FlipBook

I first started by sketching out all the scenes with pencil on the book to figure out how long everything should be and get the images right.  I then went and went over all the lines with a black marker so they can be seen more clearly. Lastly, I went through and added color

Electronics Paper

Megan George 3/3/19 History of Microphones The history of the microphone starts with German inventor Johann Philipp Reis who, in 1861, built the Reis Telephone, a device which converted sound waves into electrical impulses- however it could only relay music, not articulate speech. The telephone was later famously improved by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876 with the liquid transmitter, allowing vocal cords’ vibrations to be picked up, and speech to be recorded. However, this system had poor quality. The first microphone that projected voice well was the carbon microphone, which was created by David Edward Hughes around 1877. These microphones are the prototype of today’s mics, and they are what helped develop broadcasting and recording industries. Thomas Edison remastered the microphone into the carbon-button transmitter in 1886, a more practical and efficient substitute for Bell’s liquid transmitter. This is what was used in the first radio broadcast and was used in telephones up...

Camera Obscura

I made a portable camera obscura, I found out through readings that you just need a box with a lens on one side, a mirror at 45 degrees on the inside, and a whole on top to look into (or put wax paper on to trace the image). The project turned out ok, I think if I had better resources it would have turned out better. However, it did give me an image upside down that I could trace.

Comments on Stage Door

The Broadway show that I enjoyed looking at was West Side Story. I've never seen the play, but my senior year of high school our marching band show was west side. So I have a lot of fun memories with the music. The concept as well is a classic, star-cross lovers. From the scene, I watched the song was very lovely and even though the stage was small and there were no props, my eyes were always glued to the actors.

Opera Paper

Megan George 2/8/19 Opera Paper             I Capuleti & Montecchi is an opera about the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet- sort of. Written in Italy in 1830 by Vincenzo Bellini, it tells the same general story as the legendary Shakespeare play. It is not the same, though; rather, the particular form of the story the opera tells is a very significant choice. It gives insight into the state of Italy when the show premiered and shows off its impact. Throughout my research, I discovered the origins of this play are a bit complex; it was made with a script written for another opera called Guilietta e Romeo , which was based on a play of the same name made in 1818, which drew from Renaissance works translated into French, then back into Italian. Which means it is hardly connected at all to the Shakespeare play. The basic story seems to come from the same source, but Shakespeare lived in England. Therefore, Italy didn’t see his pla...

Aria Thoughts

To start I love the stop motion animation it really added to the mise en scene of the whole thing and have done stop motion before I know how much work had to go into it. Though out the animation I notice some cool things, like the butterfly I knew at first watch, had to mean something important, at first I thought her heart, but at the end, I realized it was her soul. I think they portrayed it beautiful and very creative. I also thought that when the mom and daughter are 'flying' around I interpreted as there love for each other, the only other thing that flew was the butterfly. The only true loves in the animation child and self. The sailor had a lot of interesting connections, the hat was one of the girls most prized possession, but lets it fly away when she has her daughter. The daughter and mothers love for each other are shown there the cord that connects them, and the sailor just rips them apart. This, of course, leads to the strangest...

Comments on Interview

I like how when people told him negative things he took it positively and improved his work. When his coach told him he had a gift in basketball, yet he still decided to only focus on his studies. It fascinated me how he wanted to prove the stereotypes from and so he worked harder. I also liked how he said you have to fail to learn and that people are afraid of failing, so then they aren't learning. How he describes creativity is very strange to me, its how you preserve nature. I don't agree with that, I think if you have an imagination you are creative. It's taking what you have in your mind and showing it to the world, it doesn't have to be an art form it can be anything. If you can create something, anything you're CREATive. Overall, he had a lot of great points and his story is amazing. However is though on creativity was strange to me, but also I can tell by the video that its an older interview, so things have changed and people know that you can ...

Intro

About me: My name is Megan, I'm originally from Michigan, but moved to Flordia 3 Years ago. I transferred to UT last semester into there BFA program. From the first class, I feel like this class is going to be very creative and relaxed. The projects sound a lot of fun and I feel like I'll be able to be very creative. I expect this class is going to make me create projects using lots of different art media, like digital and traditional.
